Years back, my Mammaw let me borrow a book, more of a very large 3 ring binder, of our family history. I am unclear on who put it together for her, I just know that it was very precise and detailed events that lead the Gower's to North America. Some of the stories were absolutely... for lack of better words... stunning. It told of how our family came from Ireland, originally, and made a deal to fight for the English. In return, they would receive 500,000 acres in North America... It was 1502 when we crossed over here. My memory recalls a founding father's name, Able Gower and his nine sons... and I believe two daughters. Anyway, Able sent his 9 sons in different directions of the country. Interestingly enough. The 500k acres that Able received, which he sold later to his friend before heading down the Illinois river, is now, what we know as, Nashville, TN.

Long story short, it has been about 15 years since I have seen that book and I long to know more. I am not sure what you know, but maybe we can shed some light on each others mysteries.

I was always mislead by the name and through research you find it bounces around in many different places. I did, indeed, find that the name is in it's correct spelling from the beginning. The origin of the name did come from the Gower Penninsula (spelled wrong I think), back during the rise of the Roman Empire. Rome showed up and said they claim this land for Rome... and we said, that's fine and they left... I'm sure there is much more to it, I just don't know it. I just happened to find that out during 2 years of research on the Roman Empire.

Anyway, long story short, I do know some things and I will ask my Mammaw if I can borrow the book again... Yes, she is still alive and kicking at age 102. I want to know what you know.
